I am trying to figure out why a printer won't add in Windows 10. The printer is shared using IPP. When I click to search for printers Windows finds the printer, but after I click the add button, the button changes to "status unavailable".

Can anyone tell me what the Windows 10 process and/or requirements are for adding an IPP printer? I am not sure how to troubleshoot.

I am sharing the printer using CUPS (common unix printing system) if that matters at all.

    Hello @Eric0 ,

Have you checked the PrintService event log?

By default, only the "Admin" channel is logged; the "Operational" channel logging can be enabled via the Event Viewer user interface.

If the information available in the event viewer does not help, one could try using Event Tracing for Windows (ETW) to trace the "Debug" channel of the PrintService (ETW provider "Microsoft-Windows-PrintService") and the ETW provider "Microsoft-Windows-WebIO" to get an insight into the Internet Printing Protocol interactions between the printer and Windows 10.

    Hi,
Check to see if the driver is installed.
1.Navigate to the Microsoft Windows Control panel.
    2.Click on Devices and Printers.
3.Click on Add a printer on the top left corner or right click to add a printer.
4.Select Add a Network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
5.Click on “The printer that I want isn’t listed”.
6.Select “select a shared printer by name”.
7.Enter http://ip:port/PrinterOnPrinterName and click on next.
    For example, http://xxx.xx.xxx.xxx:port number/printer1
8.The wizard will prompt to select the print driver to use. Select the desired driver then click OK.
Also you could check the steps below.
