    Troubleshooting Steps

    1. Verify External Sharing is Enabled at the Tenant Level
    • Navigate to the Microsoft Teams Admin Center:
      1. Go to Org-wide settings > External access.
        1. Ensure external access is enabled.
        • Check Guest access settings:
          1. Go to Teams > Guest access in the Admin Center.
            1. Ensure options like "Allow guest access in Teams" are enabled.
    1. Check Shared Channel Policies
    • Ensure the Teams policies allow external access for shared channels:
      1. In the Admin Center, go to Teams policies > Shared channels policy.
        1. Ensure "Allow external participants" is toggled on.
        • Review the shared channel's settings in Teams admin:
          • Ensure the channel's specific policy doesn’t restrict external sharing.
    1. Verify Azure AD B2B Direct Connect Settings
    • Shared channels use Azure AD B2B Direct Connect for external users. Verify:
      1. Go to the Azure AD Admin Center.
        1. Under External Identities > Cross-tenant access settings, ensure:
          • Outbound settings for the organization allow invitations.
            - **Inbound settings** of the invited external organization allow users to join.

    1. Team Owner Permissions
    • Ensure the person attempting to invite external users is the owner of the shared channel.
    • Only channel owners can invite external users.
    1. Restrictions in the Target Tenant
    • If you're inviting an external user from another organization:
      • Ensure their tenant allows receiving shared channel invitations. Their administrator may need to adjust Cross-tenant access settings.
    1. Verify User Roles
    • Confirm that the user you're inviting is added using their email address.
    • Ensure they are not restricted by domain filtering (admin settings may block certain domains).
    1. Test the Process
    • Try inviting an external user by:
      1. Clicking Share channel > With people.
        1. Enter their email address.
    1. Check if Shared Channel Feature is Enabled
    • Shared channels are available only if your tenant has enabled Teams Connect. If this feature isn't enabled, shared channels won't support external users.
    1. Update Microsoft Teams Apps
    • Ensure your Teams client is updated to the latest version. If the issue persists, try using the web version of Teams.
    1. Check Compliance and Sensitivity Labels
    • If the team or channel is protected by sensitivity labels, sharing with external users may be restricted. Review these labels in the Microsoft 365 Compliance Center. Troubleshooting Steps
