This week we find the Configuration Manager site server stops responding. After some troubleshooting, we see that the SMS_Executive service (smsexec.exe) is using the vast majority of memory. The operating system does not have sufficient memory resources, so it stops working. Do you know how to deal with this problem?

It depends on what you are considering high utilization for smsexec service. Normally, the service does consume some resources. Can you check and validate if you are meeting the minimum\recommended configuration? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/plan-design/configs/size-and-scale-numbers

    Hi,

I hope you are doing well.

1,Kindly check the smsexec.log and Event log to see if there is any useful information.

2,How about rebooting the SCCM site server? Does this issue still persist after rebooting?

3,What version of SCCM you are using? For earlier version 2010, it may be a known issue about SMS Executive service (smsexec.exe) consumes more memory than expected. Refer to: KB4599442

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do feel free to contact me.

    Best regards,

    Simon
