I am attempting to use the chat playground and upload my own pdfs to test out azure's rag functionality, however, it isnt working. I have added a pdf to the 'interrim' container that is within the storage container 'terranexdocs' however, this is not showing up in the playground! Please assist.

I am attempting to use the chat playground and upload my own pdfs to test out azure's rag functionality, however, it isnt working. I have added a pdf to the 'interrim' container that is within the storage container 'terranexdocs' however, this is not showing up in the playground!
I understand that container is not showing up in the playground while adding data.
Do you have required permissions to configure the data?
To use Azure OpenAI On Your Data fully, you need to have necessary role.
Please check if you have provided Storage Blob Data Reader for data read access in Blob Storage to your Azure Search service.
See Azure OpenAI On Your Data configuration for more information.
For Azure OpenAI to access your storage account, you will need to turn on Cross-origin resource sharing (CORS). If CORS isn't already turned on for the Azure Blob Storage resource, select Turn on CORS.
Also, make sure that your storage account and other resources are in the same subscription.
Once all permissions are given, you will be able to see the container as mentioned below.

2025-01-04T01:08:07.0433333+00:00 Thank you for your guidance regarding configuring Azure OpenAI on my data. I have attempted all the recommended steps, but the issue persists. Here’s what I’ve done so far:
- Role Assignment:
- Verified that the Azure AI Search service has been granted the Storage Blob Data Reader role for the terranexdocs storage account.
- CORS Configuration:
- Enabled CORS for the storage account with the following settings:
- Allowed origins: All
- Allowed methods: GET
- Allowed headers: All
- Exposed headers: All
- Max age: 3600 seconds
- Resource Compatibility:
- Confirmed that the storage account (
terranexdocs) and Azure AI Search resource (terranex) are in the same subscription and region.
- Confirmed that the storage account (
- Container Access Level:
- Checked the
interrimcontainer’s public access level. It is private, as I am using managed identity for authentication.
- Checked the
- Storage Account Settings:
- Verified that Allow Blob public access is enabled in the storage account configuration.
- Playground Data Source Configuration:
- Attempted to configure the data source in the chat playground. However, the
interrimcontainer is still not showing up in the dropdown list.

- Tested the connection via the Azure Cognitive Search data sources section, but the container is not recognized here either.

2025-01-06T12:17:26.3566667+00:00 Darren Yun Since you are using managed identity, To allow access to your Azure AI Search resource from your client machines, like using Azure OpenAI Studio, you need to create private endpoint connections that connect to your Azure AI Search resource.
Also, ensure to mark as trusted service of your search resource from Azure portal.
Go to your search resource's network tab. With the public network access set to disabled, select Allow Azure services on the trusted services list to access this search service.

2025-01-07T23:57:39.17+00:00 Hi Ashok, thanks for the advice.Basically, all I am trying to do is build a RAG application, where I have documents (pdfs) stored in an Azure Cosmos DB account, and I would want to access that via OpenAI api calls. Am i approaching this whole process correctly? This whole private endpoint and virtual network creation just seems very redundant and over the top. Do you have any advice on how I can do this, and what I am doing wrong?

Yes, it is needed. As mentioned earlier, you need to create private endpoint connections that connect to your Azure AI Search resource.
