    Hello Jomy Theresa Thomas,

    Thanks for your question.

Check that both the disk and the VM are located in the same region and, if applicable, the same availability zone

Also confirm it is not an ultra disk as it need specific requirements,

Once done, Can you please try to add the additional disk again by following this Use the portal to attach a data disk to a Linux VM. (if it is aindows one try the equivalent windows steps https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/attach-managed-disk-portal)

You can mark it 'Accept Answer' and 'Upvote' if this helped you

    Regards,

    Abiola

    Hi Jomy Theresa Thomas,

I understand from your question that you're trying to attach a disk created from a snapshot back to the same VM from which the snapshot originated, here are the possible scenarios and considerations.
Attaching as a Data Disk: This is typically allowed. The disk created from the snapshot should appear in the "Add Data Disk" dropdown menu, provided that:

    • The disk is not already attached to another VM.
    • The disk is configured correctly as a data disk. User's image If It Fails, as suggested by Abiola Akinbade, Verify that the disk is in the same region and resource group as the VM, ensure the disk is in an Unattached state and check if the VM’s size supports additional disks.
    • Attaching as an OS Disk: A VM can have only one OS disk, so you cannot attach the disk as an additional OS disk. If your intention is to replace the existing OS disk: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/windows/os-disk-swap Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further queries!
