I need the Microsoft Authenticator app to login to my university email for teaching a course. It did work the first couple times, but then I got a new phone, and I haven't been able to get Microsoft Authenticator to work on my new phone, neither did the old phone work anymore.

Basically, when I try to login on computer to my email, it will give me a 2 digit number that I'm supposed to put into my Authenticator, but I can't even login to authenticator anymore. In fact, to do that, I would need to get into my uni email. Please help

I was able to contact the university IT department, and they had to reset my Authenticator app, and then as soon as I could restart the whole process and connect my new phone with the MS authenticator app, it all worked just fine.

You will need to use the backup authentication method (probably sms or phone call) so you can log into your account. Then in account settings you can change your MFA settings.
If your phone number also changed you should normally be able to contact your IT department, they can then reset your MFA settings and give you a one-time-pass to log in.
