Hello, I have a paid for Microsoft 365 account which I used to create a Pay As You Go Azure account. I do not have an on-premise Active Directory account. All that I have is Microsoft 365 professional email account and a custom domain.

When I go to create a new user in Azure, I get this error message: "SourceAnchor is a required property for creation of a federated user." I have no idea how to resolve this issue. Again, I do not have an Active Directory at all. I don't know where to resolve this property.

Any assistance would be helpful.

    Hi @John Hancock

It seems that you tried to created new user directly from o365 portal using a federated domain as suffix for UPN.

If you want use this domain , you should create it in active directy and synced to entra ID if it's not yur case you should shoose another non federated domain (onmicrosoft.xxxxxxx.com).

If you want use this domain for Cloud only accounts , in this case you should removed it from federated domain.

    Hello John Hancock,

    Thanks for your question

Once a domain is federated, users can no longer be directly added to Microsoft 365. You can only create federated accounts from the source of authority so in this instance from your on-premises.

If you are sure you dont have an AD anymore, then you need to confirm it was previously removed.

This can also be due to duplicate attributes. There could be another account with the same immutableID in the recycle bin. Please check to see if this is not the case.

You can mark it 'Accept Answer' and 'Upvote' if this helped you

    Regards,
