I want to use an alias to sign in, but have a different primary email address

I've read about using an account alias for sign in to help prevent people from trying to sign in, but I don't want to use that alias as my primary email address. If I remove the email address I want to use as my primary in order to remove it under the sign in preferences, then the account I don't want out there becomes the primary email address. What am I missing?

So to be clearer. I have my primary email address (@xyz.com) - I don't want that to change. I want that email to send/receive emails. I added an alias email (@xyz.com) address and I can pick it under the sign-in preferences, but the primary email address is greyed out and I can't remove it from signing in. If I change the primary email address and make the alias the primary, then I can remove the original primary (******@xyz.com), but then all of my email comes from the alias and not the original primary. I don't want the alias out there, that was the whole point. I only want the alias to be able to sign in and the original primary to send/receive email. Is that possible?

    Hi @KELLY CLARK

    Welcome to our forum!

What is your account? Outlook.com or something else?

May I understand that you want to log in with ******@xyz.com and send and receive emails with ******@xyz.com?

If so, you may set @xyz.com as primary account and then go to Sign-in preferences to untick the @xyz.com. After that you can use your alias (@xyz.com) for signing in while keeping your primary email address (@xyz.com) for sending and receiving emails.User's image

By the way, when composing an email in Outlook, ensure that you select your primary email address (******@xyz.com) when sending emails.

    Hope it helps!
