Switching from the Outlook Desktop App to the Outlook Web App

Hello everyone,

So far I have been using the MS Office 365 - Outlook - Desktop App for both work and private use and I am very happy with it. πŸ‘πŸ˜€

Some colleagues are currently testing the Outlook Web App. I would like to join this test and possibly work with it in the long term. πŸ˜‰

For both private and professional use, I have created various archive folders in Outlook that are currently integrated into the Outlook Desktop App. The private archive files are stored on my private drives. For professional use, these are in the network directory. πŸ‘

Among other things, these archive files are used to store "OLD" and "CURRENT" emails there so that the email inbox remains small and clear. πŸ˜‰ This means that I manually save documents in the archive several times a day, but sometimes also have to access them. πŸ˜‰

If I also dare to take the step of switching to the Outlook Web App, I would like to know in advance whether I can easily integrate the corresponding archive folders in the Outlook Web App - as with the Outlook Desktop App - and continue to use/work on the emails as with the Outlook Desktop App. πŸ€”

Archive folder - storage location on the network possible:

For professional reasons, I travel a lot and use my notebook here, while my work PC is at my main residence. πŸ˜‰

When I'm on the road, I have previously saved my Outlook archive files on a mobile 2.5" hard drive.

So that I can possibly do without mobile hard drives in the long term, I'm considering whether I can also save such Outlook archive files on the network (cloud, FTP servers, etc.) and then permanently connect them from my notebook and my work PC to the corresponding cloud or FTP server. πŸ€”

Do you have any experience with this?

I would be grateful for any feedback.

Regards, VOSA

    Hi @25016813

    Welcome to our forum!

Yes, you can integrate your archive folders into the Outlook Web App. OWA supports an In-Place Archive feature, which allows you to store older email messages separately from your primary mailbox. This feature is managed by your IT administrator, who can enable it and set policies for moving emails to the archive.

While it's possible to store Outlook archive files (.pst files) on a network drive, it's not recommended for continuous use due to potential performance issues and the risk of corruption. Instead, consider using Microsoft 365 Exchange Online or Microsoft Exchange Server for archiving emails. These solutions are designed for enterprise environments and provide more reliable and efficient storage options.
