Enabling passkeys for outlook add-in

Hello,

My organization has implemented passkeys for our customers to use across our product. We also have an outlook add-in. The add-in's embedded webview prevents the ability to leverage the WebAuthN API to perform a passkey sign in. Has anyone run into this situation or any future expectations of being able to support given Microsoft is leaning into passkeys?

Thank you.

    Hi @J A

    Welcome to our forum!

The add-in's embedded webview prevents the ability to leverage the WebAuthN API to perform a passkey sign in.

This is a known limitation due to the way WebView handles certain web technologies. The embedded WebView in Outlook add-ins does not fully support the WebAuthN API, which is necessary for passkey sign-ins.

any future expectations of being able to support given Microsoft is leaning into passkeys?

Microsoft is actively working towards a passwordless future and has been enhancing support for passkeys across its platforms. Please keep an eye on updates from Microsoft regarding WebView2 and passkey support. This might include new capabilities or improved support for WebAuthN. In addition, you may also consider providing feedback through official channels to highlight the importance of this feature for your organization.

    Hope it helps!
