Have you checked the registry key in the error message if there something in that place?

It certainly seems that there is something environment that is playing tricks with you. Maybe an overzealous anti-malware program. If this is a corporate computer, you may want to talk with your IT department if they have installed something which causes this.

If you will like to uninstall SQL Server completely, please follow the steps outlined on Jermsmit site (here).

Alternatively, you can perform the steps described on this article.

Disable any antivirus/security program, and better if you can temporarily uninstall it.

Re-run SQL Server setup as an administrator. Make sure you right click on setup.exe file and select run as administrator when you want to start the SQL Server installation

    Hope this helps.

    Hi @Shella Yolanda ,
It seems this issue may be related to missing or corrupt registry keys, or broken installation media.
Please try to launch the SQL Server Setup program (setup.exe) as administrator from SQL Server installation media-> Maintenance in the left-hand navigation area-> Repair.

In addition, if this does not work, you can try to remove previous failed installation clearly using the steps in this link and download it from here, then install it again. And please make sure to disable any antivirus software, and turn off firewall for the time that the installation is running.
If you have any other questions, please let me know.

    Best Regards,
    Amelia

    Hi @Shella Yolanda ,

    Was your issue resolved?
If my reply doesn't work, could you please share us the detail.txt in setup log which is located within %programfiles%\MicrosoftSQL Server\nnn\Setup Bootstrap\Log\<YYYYMMDD_HHMM> to provide more and accurate error message?
In addition, you can remove previous failed installation, then use process monitor find out what was wrong when reinstalling.

    Best Regards,
    Amelia
