Hi

I need to understand more about how Name server Record works, as per my research I understand NS will be used to find the registered domain on public DNS and it's DNS records are only be managed where NS is pointed, please correct me if I wrong.

Need help on below points

  1. I recently changed my website to Bluehost from a different host provider. do I have to point the NS to Bluehost now or can I use any Name Server Value.
  2. If I change the NS to Bluehost, I guess my domain's DNS records will only be managed by Bluehost, so do I need to recreate all the records under Bluehost after changing the NS record value.
    1. if I can set the NS value to any, example if I point it to eroDNS, do i need to create an account in EroDNS in order to mange the my DNS records and create all records again.

Please advice, how its suppose to be done. Thank you

Regards,
Vikram Doss

    Hi Vikram

    1) You can have your domain hosted let´s say in GoDaddy and point wherever you want (Azure WordPress for example) making the changes in the DNS management tool from your provider (usually access to DNS tool is not for free)
    2) If you move your domain to another register you will need to recreate all the values that you already have (make a screenshot or copy before moving)
    3) Yes, for sure, data from one domain register to another does not move values

Let me know if you have any doubts on that. Best regards

    Hi @Vikram Doss

At broadlevel you would need only NS server as per this article -

    https://www.bluehost.com/help/article/use-custom-name-servers

    https://www.bluehost.com/help/article/dns-management-add-edit-or-delete-dns-entries

    https://www.bluehost.com/help/article/dns-records-explained

Approx 48 hrs needed to it be updated on new hosting servers.

    Hi,@Vikram Doss

Thank you for posting in Q&A!

After discussion with my colleagues, following are my answers:
1.You do not have to point the NS to Bluehost now, you can use any Name Server Value.

2.Yes. If your domain name is registered somewhere else, log into your account at your domain registrar and change the nameserver listing to your new nameservers. Then, you'll be able to copy all your existing DNS records to your new DNS host and recreate them.
Remember that it will take some time for your changes to move through the internet.(24-48 hours)

Hope you have a nice day : )
    Gloria
