Hello there guys, I bought a new PC, and I am trying to install the WDK visual studio extension.
I have set this up many many times in many different machines with no issues. I actually have it on my other machine working flawlessly.
So I install Visual Studio 2019 - No Problem
I install everything that is needed to build v14.28 everything - No Problem
I install winsdksetup - No Problem
But when I install wdksetup, at the very end of the installation, it is supposed to install the Visual Studio Extensions. It fails to do that.
I tried uninstalling it, formating my PC (i thought my fresh windows 10 install might have been corrupted?) No luck.
I followed these instructions line by line (although I was already doing everything like I always do). https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/download-the-wdk
Lol, it just won't work.
Any suggestions?

Same thing happened to me. Solutiion: use wdk 1903 download for vs2019 and windows 10. In the final stage of installation, it asked if I wanted to install the extension into my vs2019 which of course I did. That question was never asked with the other wdk version I tried initially (don't recall which version).

Can you try running the WDK.vsix from ..\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Vsix\VS2019 and report any errors you may get?

You saved my life! I was worried this was an AMD compatibility issue since I haven't had any AMD systems in a long long time.

Runing C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Vsix\VS2019\WDK.vsix solved the issue.
I guess the original new microsoft installer might be running the install script in the wrong order.

I guess you need the local policy "debug programs"? I've got a similar error and the log of WDK.vsix says something like:
