Restart causes printer problems

We have a server running Windows Server 2016 Datacenter.
This is running a Print Server which has a number of connected printers. Some are directly on the network others are USB and shared.
Everytime we run an update (restart) on the server, all the USB shared printers give an error, this is cleared through troubleshooter and clears the queue, but error occurs again when print is sent. Update needs to be uninstalled, which seems to fix error.
Any advice as to prevent this error each time we have an update/restart.

- Does this issue happen to USB shared printers only, not on network printers?
- what's the detail of error messages given?
- Do these USB printer need updates ? after update, would the issue persist ?
- Trying restart the printer spool service might also help. 5.You could dig into event viewer, find Microsoft-Windows\Microsoft-Windows-PrintService/Operational for more error info.

Apologies for the delay, please see response below:
- Correct this only affects USB shared printers. The network printers are unaffected.
- There are no error messages, the server shows "Error" on all USB printers, if troubleshooter is run it unblocks with the message to the effect "A job on the print queue was cleared". This clears the error, and releases the queue, but when print is actioned again, the error reoccurs"
- There are no available updates to drivers etc, the PC's where these are connected are always up to date via our group policy.
- We will try restart the spooler in future to confirm.
This has not occurred again as no new updates have been installed.

We encountered the same error, during the latest update.
We have checked event viewer, and no errors are present. Restart also does not resolve the problem.
