What is causing a pop-up window on every click in OneDrive asking to sign in to continue? Can recent activities in my Sign-ins be deleted or changed?

On almost every click in OneDrive, either on a folder or a file, a small window pops up instructing to "sign in to continue" with two options "yes" or "not now" even though the account is already signed in. This pop-up window can be closed by clicking the "x" on the right upper corner. However, it keeps coming out on every click.

  1. What can cause this? It can't be normal. It started to a new work account a month after it was created (while the old account was still under investigation for various issues).
  2. Is it a configuration or can it be configured? (considering many issues with my work account appear to be a "set up" such as account was not locked with over 50 failed sign-ins.)
  3. Can failed sign-in records be removed from the "Recent Activities?" Now, tried with several failed sign-ins, the account was not locked and there is no records of the failed sign-ins.
  4. Is there any kind of AI technology being used to identify "misconfigurations," either intentional or unintentional? Thank you.

    Hi @WKATCL

Is SSO (Single Sign-on) configured for OneDrive in your organization?

Problems with account caching may cause account login issues.

I suggest you go to OneDrive Settings, click the Account tab > Unlink this PC, and then select Unlink account. A screenshot showing the Account tab in OneDrive settings.

    Clear sign in credentials.

    • Press the Windows key + R to open a "Run" dialog.
    • Enter the path %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings and select OK.
    • Delete the PreSignInSettingsConfig.json file. User's image

Then please search and open Credential Manager, go to Windows Credentials > Generic Credentials > remove credentials which is related to OneDrive.

Sign in account back into OneDrive to have a check.

Such sign-in issues, you may also contact IT for assistant, IT can check the Microsoft Entra sign-in logs, see there is any record or useful information about failed logins.
