When remote desktop is focused, another window on another monitor will show the greyed-out window docking overlay?

I have a multi-monitor setup with Remote Desktop on the right monitor and browser windows on the left. Randomly, when I click on the Remote Desktop to move focus to it and start working there, the window that navigate away from will be covered with Windows 11's greyed-out window docking overlay (the same feature when you drag a window to the top of the monitor and it gives you snap to left/middle/right options). Clicking out of the RD and focusing back on any other window makes the grey overlay go away, but comes back as soon as you go back into RD.

I can get rid of it by restarting RD. Once it shows up, this is the only way to get it to go away that I have found. It happens multiple times a day - very annoying.

I am on Windows 11 Home 22621.3296. RD is in windowed mode.

I hope my terminology is good enough to get pointed in the correct direction. Any ideas?

    Hi Reese,

Thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community forums.

By default, Windows 11 Home Edition does not directly support Remote Desktop connections. In case you have temporarily enabled Remote Desktop in the Home Edition for troubleshooting purposes, here are some recommended steps to address the issue:

    1. Update your Remote Desktop client to the latest version available.
    2. Check if there are any pending Windows updates and install them.
    3. Disable the Snap Assist feature in Windows 11 by going to Settings > System > Multitasking and turning off the "Snap windows" toggle.
    4. Try using the Remote Desktop client in full-screen mode instead of windowed mode.

For long-term usage, we recommend considering upgrading to the Professional Edition to resolve this limitation:

    Hope this help.

    Regards.

    Hi Jacen

Thanks for the response. To clarify, I am not remoting in to my computer from outside my home network. I'm using the Remote Desktop Connection app that comes preinstalled on Windows 11 Home Edition to remote in to a Virtual Machine hosted by my work. This is supported for Windows 11 Home. The app works fine except for the random docking screen that pops up and won't go away. I never had issues on Windows 10.

    1. There is no update for Remote Desktop Connection app available.
    2. Windows is up to date.
    3. Disabling "Snap Windows" is a workaround, not a solution. I regularly use this feature.
    4. Similarly, full-screen mode is a workaround and not a solution. Using full-screen prevents certain keyboard commands.

Did support for Remote Desktop Connection app end? Is there a replacement?

    Thanks
    Reese
