Windows 24H2 issues with Scanning

Dear Microsoft,

Please before you push out a cumulative update do your due diligence and make sure it will not ruin critical functions. Many scanner products will not scan anymore and pop up with a WIA no friendly name error. Currently my company is having problems with Fujitsu scanners. We need this resolved quickly to avoid service disruption; what is your eta on a permanent fix for this that ISN'T rolling back the OS to the previous version. Due to vulnerabilities our security (rightly so) will not allow us to revert.

We do have a company that seems to be working (Epson) this may be a good place to start your troubleshooting as to why this isn't working with other companies (brother, ricoh to name a few). I am under the gun here from my CIO and this needs to be resolved or at least a workaround found asap.

To the community,

Have any of you ran into this issue and if so, did you find a workaround for it?

For several days now I've been trying to install a fi-7160 scanner on a new unit with the Windows 24H2 update. I've installed the latest drivers and software. Installed all software available for that scanner from Fujitsu. The scanner is talking to the computer because it will scan manually, but the PaperStream Capture software that comes from Fujitsu and allows you to batch and\or edit the scans says it can't find the scanner.

Quoting a temporary solution (I tried, and it works.):

    Steps as what I did:

    1. Finish the installation of your printer driver full package normally (Checked on 24H2, OS Build 26100.2605 - Dec 10,2024 Windows updated PC) and it will end up with only scanner driver installation failed. (Basically it won't scan from Control Center 4 scanner app and if you want to check, open 'Brother Utilities'-->Tools-->Installation Diagnostics, it will tell you only Scanner driver installation failed).
    2. Go to 'Device Manager' --> Imaging devices --> Right click on 'Your printer name' --> Disable device
      (Not delete, but disable!)
    3. Again Right click on it, but this time click on Update driver --> Browse my computer for drivers --> Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer --> on next window you should already have your printer name, just select and click on Next.
    4. On next screen you will see successfully installed a driver and click on close, Imaging device which you have just disabled will be enabled by system and then close everything, do a restart once.
    5. Just use Control Centre 4 as you usually used to scan something and it will work this time.

This worked for me on Brother MFC-B7715DW. Many thanks!

Всем доброго времени! Искал решение данной проблемы и нашел его только здесь. Возникла аналогичная проблема с МФУ Canon i-Sensys MF443dw. Однако решений данной проблемы как оказалось 2:

    1. NAPS2 - https://www.naps2.com/
    2. Решение от Alexander Nikitin1

Have a good time, everyone! I was looking for a solution to this problem and found it only here. There was a similar problem with the Canon i-Sensys MF443dw MFP. However, as it turned out, there are 2 solutions to this problem:

    1. NAPS2 - https://www.naps2.com/
    2. The solution from Alexander Nikitin1

ABBYY FineReader and Scanitto Pro in my case also did a good job of solving the problem, but since the scanner is with two-way scanning, the "WIA no friendly name" driver could scan only in one-way mode, and only in the Scanitto Pro application. This mode is inactive in ABBYY FineReader. NAPS2, even with the "WIA no friendly name" driver, allowed scanning in two-way mode.

I sincerely thank everyone who helped to cope with the problem!

    P.S.

I am writing from Russia. The problem is global, everyone is suffering!

Is your external HW win 11 comatible? have you installed the full feature software from those makers, and if still issues contact that HW makers support? Or are you useing the built in win drivers?

All is well here with my Epson products
