My update status shows "Updates are available", but the "Install Now" button cannot be clicked. And I can't upload image files now. Where should I go to change the settings so that I can successfully install the update file? Thanks!

    Hello

Please check your Update Group Policy. Sometimes, group policy settings can interfere with updates:

    1. Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
    2. Navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Windows Update.
    3. Look for settings related to Windows Update and make sure they are configured correctly.

Since your ability to restart the server is limited, If these steps don’t resolve the issue, you may need to consult with Microsoft support team.

Enter: net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits net stop msiserver
    • 然後輸入以下命令重命名 SoftwareDistribution 和 Catroot2 資料夾: ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 Catroot2.old

    Thank you for your message

I tried the points 1 to 5 you mentioned, but it still seems to be ineffective.

My "Install Now" converted to "Check for Updates" but it's still gray and unclickable.

Also, my computer is a Server. I wonder if this would be a problem?

I can only shut it down once a month. I turned it off yesterday... so I have to wait until next month.

    Hello Liliy_157,

thank you for posting on the Microsoft Community forums.

The situation you describe may be due to certain system settings or services. Here are some steps you can try to resolve it:

    1. Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple reboot can solve a lot of problems. Try restarting your computer and checking for updates again.
    2. Make sure the Windows Update service is started:
      • Press Win + R, type 'services.msc', and press Enter.
      • Find the Windows Update service in the list of services, right-click and select Start or Restart.
    3. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:
      • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshooting.
      • Select Windows Update and run the troubleshooter.
    4. Clear Windows Update Cache:
      • Open the Command Prompt (run as administrator).
      • Enter the following command and press Enter:
net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits net stop msiserver
      • Then enter the following command to rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders:
      ren C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:WindowsSystem32catroot2 Catroot2.old
      • Services that were stopped before restarting:
net start wuauserv net start cryptSvc net start bits net start msiserver
    5. Make sure your system settings aren't blocking certain types of updates: Go to "Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Advanced Options" and check if any update-related settings are turned off.

    Hope it helps.

    Kind regards,

    Lei
