Activating a Windows Server 2022 Standard ROK licenses, on a VM

Hi,

I have HP Enterprise ROK licenses, which I can't activate on my VM.

These licenses are for HP Hardware, which the physical server is.

Running a VMware VM on the server.

I used the ROK ISO, that came with the licenses, to install windows server (same version as the license, 2022 Standard).

That gives a 'Failed BIOS Lock' error on installation.

I get around this by adding a parameter to the VM options.

Then when I try to activate windows via the GUI, I get the Error:

The product key you entered didn't work code 0x80041023

The activation screen, in settings, gives the error 0x87E10BC6, something is preventing us form communicating with our activation servers.

I've had no luck with the below suggestions (support had me going in circles).

"Error code 0x87e10bc6 usually indicates that the activation server is busy or unavailable at the moment. However, since you've already tried troubleshooting the activation and still receive the error, I suggest you try the following steps:

  1. Check if the date and time on your server are correct. Incorrect date and time settings can cause activation issues.
  2. Make sure that your server has internet connectivity and can communicate with the Microsoft activation servers. You can try pinging the activation server to check if it's reachable.
  3. Try activating your server using the telephone activation method. You can find the phone number for your region by running the following command in an elevated command prompt: slui.exe 4

"

If I try to activate the license using PowerShell (Slmgr.vbs /ipk) I get the error 0xC004F050

Have googled that too and tried the activation troubleshooter, to no avail.

I've edited the .vmx file and added smbios.reflecthost = "TRUE" on the end.

Didn't work either.

Anybody know how I can activate my HPE Server 2022 Standard ROK licenses, on a VMware, please?

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to ROK license.

Please note the ROK license is a retail license published by the manufacture, it is out of Microsoft technical range, because Microsoft supports volume licensing such as MAK, KMS activation issues.

It is suggested to contact the license supplier for more detailed fix/suggestions.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Hello Molly,

Thanks for clarifying the license types.

May we know what if retailer deny to support for activation.

What does Microsoft recommend to avoid such issues in future orders?
