How do I set up COM Internet Services?

I'm working on a distributed application (written in VS C++) that uses DCOM to communicate between the client apps and the server. But some of our customers have security concerns and want to shut down the use of port 135 (The RPC endpoint mapper).

My understanding is that I can use the "COM Internet Services" feature in IIS to allow DCOM to tunnel over HTTPS, but I am having trouble setting it up as all the available documentation seems to be out-of-date. I've been able to install the feature but I cannot get it to work. Port 135 is still used.

So my questions:

  1. Are "COM Internet Services" still supported? I'm using Windows server 2019 and IIS 10.
  2. Is there some updated documentation available?
  3. Are there any alternative ways of avoiding the use of port 135?
