Hi all,

Windows server 2019 is hanging on the login screen, ctrl alt delete does not work but we can still move the mouse, a reboot needed for us to be able to logon to the server again, the reboot fixes the issue for a few days and then it hangs on the login screen again.

All updates are current, scan disc found no issues.

The server is on premises I usually get a call from a RDP user who cannot access the server, when I go out to comms room to check the server we see the login screen, the mouse moves, but non of the key pressing on the keyboard works, we then hard reboot and then the user has access for a few hrs/days.

Hope someone can help.

Regards,

Robert

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

I’m sorry to hear about the issues you’re experiencing with your Windows Server 2019. Here are a few suggestions that might help:

System File Checker and DISM: You can try running the System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tools. These tools can help fix corruption in the system files.

Disable Secure Logon: Another option is to disable the requirement for Ctrl+Alt+Delete at the login screen. You can do this by going to Start -> Run -> netplwiz -> Advanced tab -> Under Secure logon, uncheck "Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete".

Repair Mode: If the issue persists, you might need to boot into Repair Mode to perform necessary repairs or a system reset.

Event log: Check the Event View-Windows log-system to see if there are logs related to login.

Safe mode: Enter safe mode and leave it for a while to check whether similar problems occur. If it is normal, run clean boot mode. If the fault persists, consider troubleshooting hardware reasons.

    Best Regards,

    Wesley Li
