Server 2022 100% cpu usage, RDP lock up, server freezes running one program (usually 20% usage)

Hi

I run a Hetzner dedicated server i9-13900 to run trading software with server 2022 activated and fully updated, recently reinstalled fresh with tailscale secure connection software to allow connection to another server for cpu core usage in optimisating trading files on historic data.

Around two months I had no issues, now when I run Metatrader 5 it runs 100% cpu, locks up my server and can only be recovered by logging into another user and closing the program. It also does not connect to my other server anymore, I assume this possibly the server falsly identifying the connection to the 72 cores on my second server and blocking everything up somehow. Some of the time RDP fails to respond at all and requires a remote reset to regain access to the server again.

Drivers are up to date, no issues in device manager, no obviously hardware faults, tested various editions of the software and it eventually fails again. I ran the software for around 12 hours today after a fresh install before the problem persisted again.

I had evl watcher installed recently before the wipe which mentioned some brute force process causing high cpu usage but I am unable to identify the issue using the event logger or online help. Turning off the remote agents in the metatrader 5 software allows testing without any lock ups or issues.

Would greatly appreciate some assistance.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to the Metatrader 5 causing CPU 100% and related performance issue. Please try below fixs:

    1. Check if there are any updates available for Metatrader 5, update it to the latest version
    2. Check the system requirements for Metatrader 5, sometimes cpu 100% happens if the app require more higher system requirements
    3. As currently the cause of this issue points to Metatrader 5 process consuming too much CPU, it is recommended to consider reaching out to the support team for Metatrader 5 for further assistance.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

Thanks for the reply, however I am confident it is not the program directly but that is a symptom of a deeper issue.

I have reinstalled the program and it works for 12 hours or so without issue but then fails to connect remotely and run 100% cpu, also if i install the program on my windows 10 pc in the same configuration the issue is not present. It will connect to the remote server and work without issue. Also if i run the same program on the server without allowing it to connect to the remote server it works without issue.

The reoccuring fault is what I need assistance in determining specifically on my server 2022 and that is where my knowledge is limited.

    Hello,

From the error screenshots you provided, the 100% CPU is caused by Metatrader 5, which consumes up to 92% CPU usage. As you mentioned it happens specifically on your server 2022 machine, so it need to be paid attention to whether there is any system requirements to run Metatrader 5 on Server 2022. Try check it on Metatrader 5 website.

It need to be confirmed if your server meets the system requirements for running Metatrader 5, because high CPU usage occurs when an app demands more resources than the system can provide.

    Best regards,

    Molly
