We are now running windows 2022 domain controllers, no proxy servers and we used to disable the WinHTTPAutoProxySVC but I've been reading its needed for windows updates so the question is can I safely disable it or does it need to stay running

Hello,

The WinHTTPAutoProxySvc service is responsible for discovering and maintaining the current system proxy settings. It is used by various Windows components, including Windows Update, to determine the appropriate proxy settings for network communication.

If you are not using a proxy server, you can safely disable the WinHTTPAutoProxySvc service without affecting the functionality of your domain controllers. However, if you are using a proxy server, it is recommended to keep the service running to ensure proper communication with the proxy server.

Hope this helps!

Best regards

Zunhui
