Hello, my laptop won't turn on properly and is asking me for my BitLocker key. After entering it, I have an option to restart the computer, which takes me back to the screen where I'm asked to enter the BitLocker key, the other option is advanced settings which i feel unqualified for. Can you advise me on what to do? I need my laptop fast for university work.

Thanks in advance

    Hello,

Double check if you enter the recovery key in correct format in the command, here is an example:

    manage-bde -unlock c: -recoverypassword 111111-222222-333333-444444-555555-666666-777777-888888

"111111-222….888" is an example of your 48-digit bitlocker recovery key

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Dear Molly,

    Thank you for your answer,

I did what you suggested but unfortunately after running the command I get the message "the syntax of the command is incorrect" I would appreciate further help on this.

    Regards, Tadeusz

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to bitlocker screen.

    Try below steps:

    1. Enter your bitlocker recovery key
    2. When the option shows restart the computer, choose advanced settings, which will take you to the advanced options screen, then open cmd in that screen.
    3. Run below command to unlock bitlocker(fill in your bitlocker recovery key): manage-bde -unlock c: -recoverypassword <recovery password>

Then check the result if there is other error codes.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly
