WINDOWS HOME 11 conflict with CANON MF SCAN UTILITY

I reinstalled Windows 11 Home on my computer. When I start scanning with the CANON MF SCAN UTILITY program, the following message appears: "Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable may be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated."
I reinstalled the drivers again, reset the printer, modem. The problem is not solved.

The previous installation of Windows 11 Home worked without any problems.

Canon technical support informed me that the problem is in the blocking of the Windows 11 security system from sending information via WIFI.

I see that there are enough similar messages, but there is no solution. Please help solve this.

I have been frustrated by this issue also. I bought a new desktop machine and it immediately updated and installed Win11 24H2 on it. I then installed my Canon software for my printer MF750C and the MF Scan Utility would fail with the message mentioned many times in this thread.

I have installed all the latest updates and including the one Microsoft released 12/10/2024, KB5048667, but none of that made the scanner software work.

Now today I reinstalled just the drivers for the MF750C under the Imaging devices in Device Manager, and it started working, and has kept working as I think I have tested after rebooting at least 10 times today.

So bring up Device Manager, (right click on the Start Menu), expand Imaging devices, then right click your device, mine says Canon MF750C Series, (2 times). Now this part is important as I checked it twice and if you don't Disable the device first it doesn't seem to work right. So right click on the device and click Disable Device. My MF750C is listed twice here in Imaging devices, so be sure to Disable Device for both of them. Then right click on it again and select Browse my computer for drivers, then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer. Your printer/scanner should be in the list, make sure it is selected, then click Next.

Mine then came back and said Windows has successfully updated your drivers. Make sure you do this for BOTH of the devices listed there, at least if it lists two of them. Windows does say it updated the device driver. I'm not sure what it did for sure but it did something.

It doesn't say you have to, but I then rebooted my machine before I tried the software, but then the MF Scan Utility works! It has kept working for 2 days now, and after many reboots!

I don't know if this will work for everyone but so far it has worked for me. I have no ideas what made it work today.

Microsoft and Canon, (and apparently HP and Brother), need to talk and get this resolved for people!

I wonder if anyone tried new Canon MF Scan Utility Ver.2.0.1 available on Canadian website. (Version 2.0 Status Published Published Date 10/30/2024)

It doesn't say anything about applicable models, though.

Thank you for the reference. I downloaded this updated Canon MF Scan Utility and I will try it when I get a chance. I know the Canon MF Scan Utility Ver.1.21.0.2 does not work in Windows 11 24H2 26100.2605.

I checked the USA Canon web site for the Canon Color imageCLASS MF654Cdw drivers and still has the old scan utility.

Thanks for doing the experiment, Mark k7. We are all breathlessly awaiting your results and hoping that you have found the key to this difficult problem.

On a recent call to Canon Support, the tech said it was a problem on the Microsoft side, but maybe Canon has found a way around it.

    Update:

Last week I restored all my systems from Windows 11 24H2 back to Windows 11 23H2. This allowed the Canon MF654Cdw printer and scanner to work correctly again, including scanning with the MF Scan Utility.

Windows 11 24H2 26100.2605 updated on all my computers today. The Canon MF Scan Utility works without installing the 2.0.1 version. I may install the MF Scan Utility 2.0.1 later just to see if it works, but not sure when.

Mark k7, let me get this straight. The Canon MF Scan Utility would not run for you on Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.2605 (the current update), but when you moved back to Windows 23H2 the scan facility worked. (So far, this all sounds reasonable; we are all having trouble with 24H2. I have Build 26100.2605 and the scan utility does not work.) But then, when Windows updated your systems back to 24H2 Build 26100.2605 again, now the scan utility works? I can't see why it would work now on your PC but not on mine running the same 24H2 build if the issue is really 24H2 26100.2605, unless Microsoft has changed something that is not indicated in the version number.

I have read here https://www.elevenforum.com/t/w11-24h2-escl-bug-causing-havoc.31234/page-2 that the update to Build 26100.2605 allows the Canon Scanner Utility to work, but just until the PC is restarted. MS thinks they have solved our problem, but it does not appear to be robust.

If you will confirm that you originally had Build 26100.2605 when the scan utility did not work, and now it does with the same build number even after a restart, I'll try reverting to 23H2 like you did and see what happens. -- Thanks.

You are correct. This makes no sense to me after all the upgrading/downgrading that I went through the past two months.

Strangely, after I had restored all my systems back to 23H2 (restored from my back up images), blocked 24H2 from installing the best I could, and finding all the system upgraded today to 24H2, all computers do not experience the Canon MF Scan Utility error that I reported earlier.

I also have several businesses were the scanner does not work on 24H2 until the system goes back to 23H2. This has been the best workaround solution so far, but 24H2 does install back. Then the scanner may or may not work on computers throughout. Same computer, same setup, same scanner and a very inconsistent results.

If you will confirm that you originally had Build 26100.2605 when the scan utility did not work, and now it does with the same build number, I'll try reverting to 23H2 like you did and see what happens. -- Thanks.

Correct, on 26100.2605, the scanner would not work, either by upgrade via Windows Update or clean install; until now.

This eSCL scanner bug has kept me extremely busy in trying to upgrade/downgrade and re-upgrade computers. Usually when a system has 23H2, gets upgraded to 24H2 the first time, roll it back to 23H2, and then let it auto-upgrade through Windows Update to 24H2 (again), the scanners usually do always work. This method I have been using and it works most times. When this fails completely, install 23H2 and try to make sure the system does not upgrade.

When having medical and financial companies that relies on printers and scanners every day, you find a way to get it to work. Some "workarounds" are timely to do, and others are not, but you have to get those scanner working again.
