We have an application service running on windows server 2019 and Database server is on Windows 2003 with SQL Server 2005.

When I am trying to create the ODBC or UDL from the application server, getting the below SSL error.

"Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. [DBNETLIB] connectionOpen SECDoClientHandshake()) SSL Security error."

Is there a specific version of ODBC (probably a lower version) should be installed on Windows Server 2019?? or

any SQL native client software should be instaleld pls??

Kindly suggest.

We tried to enable the TLS 1.0 on app server but still it did not work.

Kindly suggest the workaound or fix for this issue as my OS and DB instance both are very lower version.

Thank you,

Raj

    Good morning Dathuraj,

You could try to take ssl authentication into your own hands and this link could start you off. It is pretty difficult and a lot of work and I am not sure you are really looking for this but here it is:
Installing and Configuring OpenSSH on Windows Server 2019 (microsoft.com)

I think that your 2019 server expects higher grade authentication then it gets from your database server. Thus you need either to see your 2019 ssl authentication downgraded or your windows 2003 ssl authentication upgraded.

I've no experience succesfully integrate ssl. Yet.

I will be around the coming couple of weeks to see and opinonate on what questions are brought here.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to SSL Security error.

For your application service running on Windows Server 2019 and connecting to a Database server on Windows 2003 with SQL Server 2005, it’s important to use the latest supported ODBC driver for SQL Server.

But since you’re dealing with an older version of SQL Server (2005), you might encounter compatibility issues with newer ODBC drivers. In such cases, you may need to use an older version of the ODBC driver that is compatible with SQL Server 2005.

Regarding the SSL error you’re experiencing, it could be related to the SSL/TLS protocol versions supported by your application server and the database server. Since you’ve already tried enabling TLS 1.0 without success, consider checking if both servers support the same SSL/TLS protocol versions and if they are configured correctly.
