Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.
It sounds like you're experiencing a common issue with external monitors and sleep mode, which can sometimes be caused by a variety of factors such as driver issues, Windows power settings, or HDMI handshake problems. Here are some steps you can take to try to resolve this issue:
Update Drivers
- Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics drivers are up to date. You can do this via the Device Manager or by visiting the website of your graphics card manufacturer (e.g., Intel, NVIDIA, AMD).
- Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager".
- Expand "Display adapters".
- Right-click on your graphics card and select "Update driver".
- Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software".
- Monitor Drivers: Sometimes, installing the specific driver for your monitor can help.
- Visit the Samsung website.
- Search for your monitor model (C24F390FH) and download the latest driver.
- Install the driver on your laptop.
Windows Power Settings
- Adjust your power settings to prevent your external monitor from going to sleep.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Select “Hardware and Sound” and then "Power Options".
- Click on “Change plan settings” next to your current power plan.
- Select “Change advanced power settings”.
- Expand the “PCI Express” section.
- Expand “Link State Power Management” and set it to "Off".
HDMI Settings
- Sometimes the HDMI connection might not wake up correctly due to a handshake issue.
- Try a different HDMI cable to see if it resolves the issue.
- If your monitor has multiple HDMI ports, try using a different one.
Display Settings
- Check your display settings to ensure that your monitor is set up correctly.
- Right-click on the desktop and select “Display settings”.
- Ensure that the monitor is recognized and that the correct resolution is set.
- Sometimes changing the main display and then switching it back can help.
BIOS Update
- Update the BIOS of your HP Envy x360. An outdated BIOS can sometimes lead to power management issues.
- Visit the HP support website and search for your laptop model.
- Download and install the latest BIOS update if available.
Disable Fast Startup
- Fast Startup can sometimes cause issues with external monitors.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to “System and Security” > “Power Options”.
- Click “Choose what the power buttons do” on the left.
- Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable”.
- Uncheck “Turn on fast startup (recommended)”.
- Save changes.
Monitor Firmware
- Check if there's any firmware update available for your Samsung monitor and update it if possible.
Sleep Mode Settings
- You can adjust settings to prevent the laptop from going into deep sleep mode.
- Go back to “Power Options”.
- Click on “Change plan settings” next to your current power plan.
- Click on “Change advanced power settings”.
- Expand “Sleep” and make adjustments, such as disabling “Hybrid Sleep” or setting “Hibernate after” to never.
By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to minimize or eliminate the issue of your extended monitor not waking up from sleep. If the problem persists, it may be worthwhile to reach out to HP or Samsung support for further assistance.
I hope the information above is helpful.
If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Haijian Shan

Occasionally, after my hp Envy x360 laptop goes to sleep, when I wake it up, my extended monitor (Samsung C24F390FH) will not wake up unless I power down the monitor.
Occasionally, after my hp Envy x360 laptop goes to sleep, when I wake it up, my extended monitor (Samsung C24F390FH) will not wake up.
The only way I have found to 'wake up' the monitor is to (1) unplug HDMI cable from the laptop; (2) unplug monitor power cord (3) wait for ~20 seconds or more (4) plug power cord back in and plug HDMI cable back into laptop. Then the monitor wakes up and works fine.
What is weird is that sometimes, the monitor wakes up just fine when I move my mouse to wake up my laptop. But, other times, the monitor will not wake up when I move the mouse. What the heck is going on?
