How to register Windows Server license key to new install of Windows Server on the same device?

Hello, I'm attempting to reactivate a license for a Windows Server 2022 onto a new install of Windows Server 2022 on the same device. I had already unlicensed the key on the original Windows Server, but when trying to reactive on the new install, it doesn't accept it. Why is this?

    To register a Windows Server license key on a new installation of Windows Server on the same device, you can follow these steps:

    1. Open the Server Manager on the new installation of Windows Server.
    2. Click on the "Local Server" option on the left-hand side of the window.
    3. Under the "Properties" section, you should see an option to "Change product key". Click on this option.
    4. Enter the license key that you want to register and click on "Next".
    5. Follow the prompts to complete the activation process.

    If you have already unlicensed the key on the original Windows Server, it should be available for use on the new installation.

    Hi, when looking at the properties of the local server, I don't see anything about changing product key.

    If you are not seeing the option to change the product key under the "Properties" section in Server Manager, it is possible that the Windows Server installation is already activated or that the license key you are trying to use is not valid for the edition of Windows Server you have installed.

    You can check the activation status of Windows Server by opening the Command Prompt and running the command "slmgr /dlv". This will display the license information and activation status of the installed Windows Server.

    If the license key is not valid for the edition of Windows Server you have installed, you will need to obtain a valid license key for that edition.
