On my home network...no domain. My desktop computer is running the latest updates to Windows 10. I have hard drives connected to the USB port of my main router (Asus RT-AX86U Pro) and the USB port of a router I have configured as an access point (TP-Link Archer C8).
The Asus drive is mapped as K: and the TP-Link drive is mapped as L:
I can access both drives in Windows Explorer and see the files in them. The drive connected to the Asus router (K:) works as expected.
The drive connected to the TP-link router (L:), I can open the drive, I can view the folders and files on it, I can access and open the folders and files on it. I can even copy files from the L: drive to my local hard drive documents folder.
I can drag files to copy or move them from the K: drive to the L: drive and vice versa.
But, whenever I try to copy or move a file from my local hard drive to the L: drive, I get a "Destination Folder Access Denied" dialog with the message "You need permission to perform this action".
It's acting like I have read only access to the L: drive, but ONLY when I'm trying to copy files from my local drive, when I copy files between the two network drives, it works fine.
If I want to move or copy a file from my Windows 10 computer, I have to move/copy it to the other network (K:) drive first, then I can copy or move it to the TP-Link (L:) drive...which makes no sense to me.
I also have a laptop running Linux Mint and I can copy files from that computer directly onto the TP-Link network drive using the same access credentials, so I don't think it's a permissions thing on the drive or router.
I'm pretty sure the issue is with some configuration or setting in Windows 10 but I can't figure it out.
When I look at the permissions settings for the two drives from Windows Explorer, they're set exactly the same way.
I tried turning off access control on the TP-Link router (basically allowing anyone read/write access), that didn't work.
I tried turning off Windows Firewall. That didn't work.
I've changed other settings on the router, restarted the router, disconnected and reconnected the USB drive...nothing has worked.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
