Hello,
To troubleshoot this issue, ·we'll need to confirm how port forwarding is implemented, and what is the specific error when the RDP connection fails?
You can try the following workarounds first:
- Make sure you have port forwarding set up correctly on your router, forwarding the external port 3389 (TCP) to the internal IP address and port of your Windows 11 machine. Different router settings may vary, and you can refer to the router manufacturer's support site for specific steps.
- Make sure Windows 11's firewall allows remote desktop connections. You can find the Firewall & Network Protection setting in the Windows Security app and allow remote desktop apps to pass through the firewall.
- Use the computer's IP address instead of the computer's name to establish a remote connection, as domain name resolution may not always work as expected.
- As a rule of thumb, in Windows 11 a lot of RDP failures can be solved by disabling UDP and using TCP only for RDP connections:
(1) On the problem server, open the local group policy (gpedit.msc) and locate to: Computer Configuration - Management Templates - Windows Components - Remote Desktop Services - Remote Desktop Session Host - Connection
(2) Click "Select RDP Transmission Protocol" and select "Use TCP Only" in the drop-down box.
(3) After the application is applied and confirmed, restart the remote desktop service or restart the server directly.
I hope this information helps.
Best regards,
