Network connect PC & Mac over wifi home network

Unable to connect my PC and Mac.
I can see the PC from the Mac Finder, yet when connecting I'm asked for a username and password, which doesn't seem to be my login details. From what I've read it seems I need a network name and password? Yet this isn't the modem details is it?
I can't see the Mac from the PC.
I've turned off Private Firewall. Still nothing.
I've read a couple of threads, and just getting massively confused.
They've been connected before, just can't remember how I did it.

Th is one of the articles I've used for instructions:

Find the information Mac users need to connect to a Windows computer

Mac users need the network address for the Windows computer, the workgroup name, and the username and password for the shared folder.

To find this information on a Windows 10 computer:

  • For the computer’s workgroup name and computer name, enter “view basic information” in the search field next to the Start button, then choose the Control panel result.
  • For the names of user accounts available on the computer, enter “view basic information” in the search field next to the Start button, choose the Control panel result, then click “Manage another account.”
  • For the Internet Protocol (IP) address, click the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray, click Network settings, then click Advanced options; the IP address is listed as the IPv4 address.

This is where I get confused attempting to follow the bullet list.
Any advise appreciated as I have an urgent job and need to share large files across machines.

    Hello,

It sounds like you're trying to establish a file sharing connection between your PC and Mac over the same local network. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

1.On your Windows PC, go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Advanced Sharing Settings. Make sure that "Turn on network discovery" and "Turn on file and printer sharing" are enabled for the private network profile. Also, consider disabling password protected sharing if you want to connect without a specific user account.

2.When connecting from your Mac to the PC, you need to use the username and password of an actual user account existing on the PC.

3.Make sure both devices are connected to the same network segment, either wirelessly or wired, and they can ping each other by IP address or hostname.

4.Ensure that the folder you're trying to access on the PC has proper permissions set for the user you're logging in as from the Mac.

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards

    Zunhui

    Hey,
    Thanks for your reply.

Network discovey & file/printer sharing on.
    Disabled pwd protection sharing.

2.When connecting from your Mac to the PC, you need to use the username and password of an actual user account existing on the PC.

Using my PC login credentials is rejected and this is where I am confused as I then read in Apple instructions (link above) that a network password and username was required? I've been unable to find these details.

3.Make sure both devices are connected to the same network segment, either wirelessly or wired, and they can ping each other by IP address or hostname.

    It's a home network?

4.Ensure that the folder you're trying to access on the PC has proper permissions set for the user you're logging in as from the Mac.

    Followed instructions.

In finder on the Mac, I can see the PC.

When I use PC username and password there are repeated 'wrong credentials' or some such thing.
Still waiting for a reply with this issue.

Typical poor support from the MS "Community". It's actually pretty straight forward. Check your "Workgroup" name on Windows vs the Mac machines. No one on MS or Apple address that properly. Support in 2024 is poor at MS across the board. Apple's is good Live only, IMHO.
