Hello ,
Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.
If your laptop cannot recognize the new 5G router, it may be because your wireless network card does not support the 5GHz frequency band (5G Wi Fi). Here are the methods to obtain a wireless network card that supports the 5GHz frequency band:
- Check if the current network card supports 5GHz: Open the command prompt and enter the following command:
netsh wlan show drivers
Search for supported wireless modes in the results. If there is no 802.11a or 802.11ac/ax, it means that the network card does not support 5GHz.
Confirm that the router has enabled the 5GHz frequency band and the signal is normal.
If it is confirmed that the current network card does not support 5GHz, you can purchase a USB wireless network card that supports the 5GHz frequency band.
- Insert a USB wireless network card device that supports the 5GHz frequency band into the USB interface and install the accompanying driver program (in most cases, the system will automatically recognize it).
- After installation, restart the device, search for wireless networks, and connect to the 5GHz router. If there are still issues, you can try updating the network card driver or checking the router settings.
I hope the information above is helpful.
