I can't create a vhdx file, create a new VM, or use quick create. They all come back with this same error message. Ive edited my FSdepends registry key from 3 to 0. Reinstalled Hyper-V. Verified all services are running for Hyper-V. Tried to create a VMs without a vhdx file.

System Specs:

Win 11 Pro

i9-139000k (Virtualization ON)

32 GB DDR4

1TB SAMSUNG Pro 970 EVO

1TB SAMSUNG Pro 990

4080

    Hi Admin,

    Hope you're doing well.

This error typically indicates that the security settings of the specified '.vhd' file are not configured correctly. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Ensure that you are a member of the local Administrators group. Confirm that the path to the '.vhd' file is not a network-mapped drive.
    2. Examine the specified '.vhd' file's security settings. You can compare them with a newly created virtual hard disk ('.vhd') file to ensure they match.
    3. Make sure the current logon user has both Read and Write permissions for the '.vhd' file. Lack of proper permissions can lead to this error.
    4. If the issue persists, consider re-installing the server or upgrading to a newer version before creating new virtual machines with the existing '.vhd' files.

    Best Regards
