Check for activation of Windows Server 2019 Essential Product Key bought from DELL Thailand.

My company bought DELL PowerEdge T640 Tower Server 3 years ago from DELL Thailand and we've got DELL EMC Windows Server 2019 Essentials RESELLER OPTION KIT along with it but we aren't sure that this key was activated on that device or not, and now, that device is installed by Linux OS for SAP ERP.

My company plans to buy new DELL Server again so we need to check if this product key is still available. I called to DELL Thailand and asked them that "Can I check the activation" and "If the key isn't activated, can I use it with our new DELL Server" and they said they can't check the activation but if the key isn't activated in the old server, it can be activated in the new server. Then, they told that I need to contact to Microsoft Service to check the key activation.

I called to Microsoft Thailand via +66 2 263 6888, +66 1800012705 and +66 2 257 4999. All of these redirected me to AI customer service (not sure if it was AI but looked like) and forced me to open a product support request via https://aka.ms/prosupport in order to contact for supports. I filled in all of the questions in Step 1: Product and Support Type but it informed that "We were unable to find an eligible support plan associated with your account. Please add a support plan from the options below" and I don't know what to do next.

So, I can't contact to Microsoft and asking a question here instead.

Can Microsoft Service Team or anybody help me on this so I can contact a human?

    Hello  Patiphon.C,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

To check the activation status and find the product key used on your server, you can use the following commands in the Command Prompt:

    Check Activation Status

    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
      • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. Enter the Command:
      • Type the following command and press Enter:

    slmgr /xpr

    1. This command will display a window showing the activation status of your Windows Server.

    Find the Installed Product Key

    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
      • Press Windows + X and select Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
    2. Enter the Command:
      • Type the following command and press Enter:

    wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey

    1. This command will display the original product key stored in your server's BIOS or UEFI firmware.

These commands should help you verify the activation status and identify the product key used on your server. If the product key is still valid and hasn't been activated on another device, you should be able to use it for your new server. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask!

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

    Thank you for the answers.

I can't use the commands you've provided. I've mentioned that my server is now installed by LINUX OS and not able to use Windows commands to check. That's why it's a problem. Is there a way to check if the product key in my hand is available without using it in real production?

    Thank you in advance.
