I was forced by Microsoft to change my password recently. Since then my Home Network connectivity has stopped working. All my network and sharing settings are unchanged. The devices are visible in File Explorer but I can't connect to them.

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

The issue with your home network connection stopping working after changing your password may be related to credential caching. Here are some possible workarounds:

    1. Delete the old network credentials

Open the Control Panel. Select User Accounts. Click on "Credential Manager". Select Windows credentials, and then locate the credentials related to the network share. Delete the old credentials.

    1. Re-add your network credentials

Still under "Windows Credentials," tap "Add Windows Credentials." Enter the IP address or hostname of the tethering device. Enter a new username and password.

    1. Make sure that the sharing settings are correct for all devices:

Right-click the folder you want to share and select Properties. Under the "Sharing" tab, tap on "Advanced Sharing". Make sure "Share this folder" is checked, and check the permission settings.

    1. Check your network discovery and file sharing settings

Open the Control Panel. Select Network and Sharing Center. Click "Change advanced sharing settings" on the left. Make sure that Network Discovery and File and Printer Sharing are enabled.

    1. Check your firewall settings

Open the Control Panel. Select System & Security. Click on "Windows Defender Firewall". On the left, click Allow apps or features to pass through Windows Defender Firewall. Make sure File and Printer Sharing is enabled.

    1. Restart your router and all connected devices.
    2. Use a network reset

Open settings. Select Network & Internet. Click on "Status". Select Network Reset.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Regards,

    Jill Zhou

Thanks for the response; do I apply these changes to both devices?

    Hello,

Thank you for the support but none of your suggestions made any difference.

When I try to connect from one device to the other, I'm asked for my Network credentials but, whatever I enter, it says I don't have permission.

    Regards,

    R.
