Sometimes the image freezes on the RDS

Hello,

Need some tips.

I have 2 RDS server 2019, one RDS has started behaving strangely.
Users connect to RDS via remote desktop.
Sometimes the image freezes on the RDS, if I log in via shadow user everything is normal but the image is still frozen from the user’s side.
To solve this, I ask the user to cross out RDS and log in again, then everything is normal again.

what could this be?

    Hello,

When turn off UDP On Client, RDP traffic will only use the TCP protocol. This can help address issues related to freezes, disconnections, or connection failures when using RDP over UDP.

Users will not notice the configuration change directly. It is recommended to configure this policy and monitor if the issue disappear.

    Best regards,

    Molly

    Hello,

Yes, you should configure the “Turn Off UDP On Client” policy on the client side. This policy setting allows you to disable UDP (User Datagram Protocol) for Remote Desktop connections initiated from the client machine. After enabling this policy, remember to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect, then monitor the issue.

    Best regards,

    Molly

    Hello,

You can try this step to try terminate the RDP Process and configure a special Group Policy:

    Open the Task Manager.

Find the process named mstsc.exe, right-click it, and select End task.

Open the Group Policy Management Console or the Group Policy Editor.

Navigate to: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Connection Client.

Enable the “Turn Off UDP On Client” policy.

Reboot your PC to apply the changes

    Then monitor the issue.

    Best regards,

    Molly

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the description, I understand your question is related to RDS freeze.

    1. Check the network connection, poor network will cause the rdp freeze.
    2. Update drivers, try running the Driver Verifier:

Open a command prompt window by selecting Run as administrator and type verifier to open the Driver Verifier Manager.

Driver Verifier - Drivers for Windows | Microsoft Learn

    1. Try creating a new user profile for affected users and see if the issue persists.
    2. Update RDS server to latest version, install latest windows update.
    3. Check the RDS session timeout settings and adjust them if necessary.

    Have a nice day.

    Best Regards,

    Molly

    Thanks for reply,

    1. should I just ping the RDS server?
    2. can probably just delete the user account of the user. at the next login a new user account will be created, right?
    3. RDS is up2date
    4. This is RDS session
