RemoteApp sessions constantly dropping

Created a RemoteApp Program Collection for my Microsoft Dynamics GP client, Report Designer, and Report Viewer. I use Group Policy to push the RemoteApp work resource. Clients connect without incident. But within ten minutes, clients disconnect with this error:

Clients can easily reconnect to the session, although the session tries to open a second instance of the application, which is annoying. However, within ten minutes, the client disconnects with the same error.

I have turned off Automatically detect settings in settings > network and internet > proxy > automatic proxy setup on all the clients. That did nothing but break our VPN clients.

Any advice is appreciated.

    Hello   Charles Moore (Charles.Moore),

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Based on the error message you provided, it sounds like the issue may be related to HTTPS ports being blocked by a web proxy. One potential solution could be to try disabling the web proxy on the affected clients, as the error message suggests.

If that doesn't work, you may need to check your network configuration to ensure that the necessary HTTPS ports are open and not being blocked by any firewalls or other network security measures.

If possible, we recommend that you choose a different VPN to try to connect to see if the problem persists.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

Thanks for the reply. The https ports are not being blocked, or there would be no initial connection, nor would the clients be able to reconnect. When disabling the web proxy, the problem continues, plus other problems are created (VPN client not working). Https ports are open and functioning for all other https traffic. The problem is occurring across the VPN and on the local network, wired and wireless.

    Hello  Charles Moore (Charles.Moore),

    Thank you for your reply.

If there are no issues on the network side, we need to try to find the problem from other directions. As you described earlier, the client will disconnect within ten minutes. Let's check if there are any restrictions on the server side regarding this issue.

Through Server Manager, follow these steps:

    1. Open "Server Manager".
    2. Select "Remote Desktop Services".
    3. On the "Overview" tab, click "Edit Deployment Properties" under "Tasks".
    4. In the "Edit Deployment Properties" dialog box, select the "Session" tab.

Through Group Policy Edito, follow these steps:

    1. Open the "Group Policy Editor": Type "gpedit.msc" in the Windows search bar and press Enter.
    2. Go to "Computer Configuration" > "Administrative Templates" > "Windows Components" > "Remote Desktop Services" > "Remote Desktop Session Host" > "Session Time Limits".

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

    Haijian,

Thanks for the reply. The properties on the session collection define the session limits, which are all set to Never. Also, when session limit is reached or a connection is broken, the session is set to end, not disconnect.

In group policy, none of the session time limits are set.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Charles

    Hello  Charles Moore (Charles.Moore),

    Thank you for your reply.

Based on the error message you provided, it seems that the issue is related to HTTPS ports not being allowed on your network configuration. However, you mentioned that the HTTPS ports are open and functioning for all other HTTPS traffic.

One possible solution is to check if there are any firewalls or security software that may be blocking the HTTPS ports specifically for the RemoteApp program collection. You may need to check the settings of your firewall or security software to ensure that the necessary ports are open for the RemoteApp program collection. If possible, try turning off the firewall briefly to see if the problem still recurs.

Another possible solution is to check if there are any network settings that may be causing the issue. You may need to check the network configuration of the clients and the server to ensure that they are properly configured and that there are no conflicts or issues that may be causing the disconnections.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
