Windows 2022 RDP terminated after few seconds

Hello everyone,

I am facing an issue, I am not sure whether the problem is with Windows itself, or if the issue is related to Citrix. We have an environment of multiple Citrix 2019 machines, the image is streamed from the master image. We are planning on upgrading to 2022.

The problem is I created a new WIN2022 image and assigned it to one Citrix server, then when I tried to RDP to the server, it terminated it after 5 seconds. This was the case for the domain account, the local admin was working just fine. The console connection from VMware was working even with the domain account.

What is also interesting is that RDP starts to work after some time ( anywhere between 3-4 hours ), but when I reboot the server again, the RDP does not work anymore. From event viewer it was obvious that I needed to add my account to "Distributed access group", when I did so, the RDP was working. That is interesting because RDP was working on Windows 2019 even without this.

After I was able to log in, it then revealed another issue - I was not able to use my domain accout as administrator for anything. I couldn't rename the PC or start elevated CMD. We haven't had this problem with Windows servers 2019 and I am starting to get hopeless. I really don't know how to investigate this issue any further. Any suggestions?

    HelloJozefH2000

Are there any differences in Group Policy settings between your Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022 configurations that might explain this behavior?

    Thanks,

    Karlie

I actually managed to find the root cause, it is because the GPO is not loading properly. I was missing the group pushed by GPO.

But I am still struggling to find a root cause of GPO not applying... there is almost nothing in the event logs

You may want to utilize the troubleshooting steps outlined in this article to determine the cause of the GPO not applying.
