Greetings,
I am a new IT admin at a company as the last person passed away suddenly.
we have a user needing to update their name on a machine, but for the life of me, the normal route does not show the "change name" click through in User Accounts.

    Hi Jonathan Kaz,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

First of all, for users who need to update their names on their computers, if the “Change Name” option is not found through the normal user account settings path, this could be due to a number of reasons. However, changing the name of a local user account can usually be accomplished through the Control Panel, even if some of the UI elements may not be as intuitive in the new interface of Windows 11.

Steps to change the name of a local user account:

    Open the Control Panel:

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.

Type control panel and press Enter.

    Go to User Accounts:

In Control Panel, find and click on “User Accounts” or “User Accounts and Home Security” (depending on your Control Panel view).

Click Change Account Type under User Accounts.

    Manage Accounts:

Find the account that needs to have its name changed and click on it.

    Select “Change Account Name”.

    Enter a new name:

Enter a new account name and click “Change Name”.

    Best regards

    Neuvi
