Hello Team

I’m facing an issue while trying to connect to a VPN. Despite extensive troubleshooting, I’m unable to establish a connection, and I’m consistently receiving error code 0x800704d4 and CMROUTE.DLL to update your routing table.

Troubleshooting Steps Already Performed:

Removed all third-party antivirus software and restarted the PC.

Deleted the existing CHILD certificate and the old VPN client.

Installed a new CHILD certificate and the latest version of the VPN client.

Temporarily disabled the Defender Firewall to rule out interference. (The firewall has been re-enabled.)

Despite these steps, the VPN client is still unable to connect.

Error Observations:

The error code displayed is 0x800704d4.

"Connection Manager needs elevated privilege" to run the the following custom actions to proceed with the connection. CMROUTE.DLL to update your routing table. when attempting to connect.

Could you please help identify the root cause or suggest additional steps to resolve this issue?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

    Hello,

According to the error message you provided, the network connection was terminated by the local system. This may be caused by a VPN tunnel problem. I suggest you try the following steps to see if the problem can be solved:

    1. Open Control Panel, find and click Network Connection Settings.
    2. Find your network connection and right-click it to go to Properties.
    3. In the Properties window, go to the Security tab.
    4. Under VPN Type, select the appropriate VPN tunnel from the drop-down menu.

    1. Save changes and restart the system.

    Best Regards

    Zunhui
