No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

I am running Windows Server 2019 and I changed the administrator account name to a new name. After making the name change anytime I try and open system Settings I receive the error No mapping between account names and security IDs was done.

I tried to add another user via PowerShell, but I'm met with the error New-LocalUser cmdlet does not exist.

I would appreciate any assistance on this matter.

    Hello Thomas Avery,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

1.Is the Windows Server 2019 a Windows Domain Controller or one Member server in the domain?

2.Did you change the domain Administrator or the local administrator account to a new account?

3.Please check if you have changed the name correctly.

4.Please check the security ID of the account before you change the account name and after you change the account name.

5.If you change this account to the original Administrator account, does the issue disappear?

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou

It was the local administrator account.

Unfortunately I can't get back to the settings menu to change the account name back to Administrator without receiving the mapping error.

So I need to figure out how to resolve the mapping error.

    Hello Thomas Avery,

    Good day!

Unfortunately I can't get back to the settings menu to change the account name back to Administrator without receiving the mapping error.

A: Do you have another local administrator account except this built-in local Administrator account? If so, you can sign in this machine using that local admin account and change it.

If this machine is in one domain, you can sign in this machine using the domain admin account and change it.

    Best Regards,
    Daisy Zhou
