I purchased my laptop about 1 year ago, and it's been working great. Today I booted it up and now it wants a BitLocker code. I have never set it up, never heard of it. I logged into my account and doesn't show the device. I AM NOT FORMATTING MY DRIVE! Please tell me how to get around this so I can get back in.

    Hi Edward Ramirez1,

bitLocker is a security feature in Windows that encrypts your hard drive to protect your data. If you did not set up BitLocker on your device, it's possible that it was enabled by default by the manufacturer or by someone else who had access to your device.

To access your device, you will need to enter the BitLocker recovery key. This key is a unique code that was generated when BitLocker was enabled on your device. You can find the recovery key in your Microsoft account if you have previously backed it up there.

To retrieve your BitLocker recovery key from your Microsoft account, please follow these steps:

    1. Go to account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey.
    2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that you used to set up BitLocker.
    3. Select the device that you need the recovery key for.
    4. Follow the instructions to get your recovery key.

If you did not back up your recovery key to your Microsoft account, you may need to contact the manufacturer of your device for assistance.

    Have a nice day.

    Kind regards,

    Lei

It was never set up by anyone. I used it on Thursday, then Saturday it was enabled. No one has used it other than me. If no one ever set it up, then how would I find the key. The websites that everyone sends me to, gives me the same tasks and I have not found my device or my key. It seems that Microsoft enabled it and is now forcing me to wipe my drive. If that the case then I am going to Apple. Give me a solution

If you are unable to unlock your device using any method, you may need to reset your device and reinstall the operating system. Since this will cause you to lose all the data on your device, I recommend you contact Contact Us - Microsoft Support for further assistant.

    Hello,

Windows activate Bitlocker by default. This is not your fault or anyone except Microsoft, they do not teach people what is Bitlocker, how it is working and how to recover it.

Did you set up your microsoft account on your computer ? (like hotmail.com or something else)

I had my yahoo email on it. I checked the account for emails, and have none. I checked my Microsoft account and found no devices. I checked my Microsoft office account also, including all my "jobs" office account.
