I want to be able to acces my laptop from my samsung s23u while i'm away, since i do a lot of work on the laptop. I found out about rd but i have some problems. after the phone found my laptop (i already have phone link on the phone) and auto-completed the name of the pc, i tried adding a user account from the setup menu (didnt work). i tried with the "ask when required" option but that didnt work either, because when i hit save and got prompted with the "enter your user account" dialog box. i tried with my user and the pass i use to log into the laptop, tried with microsoft account user and password, but tht didnt work either

    Hello Christian Morogan,

Based on the information you provided, it seems like you're having issues with the user account authentication. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Make sure that Remote Desktop is enabled on your laptop. To do this, go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > Remote settings, and make sure that "Allow remote connections to this computer" is checked.
    2. Check that your laptop and the RD Client app on your phone have connected to the internet.
    3. Try using your laptop's IP address instead of its name when connecting through the RD Client app. You can find your laptop's IP address by typing "ipconfig" in the Command Prompt on your laptop.
    4. Double-check that you're entering the correct username and password. If you're using a Microsoft account to log in to your laptop, try using your email address instead of your username.

I hope the information above is useful. If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Xin Wang

Steps 1,2,3 are done. No. 4 is correct, but it still doesn't allow me to connect, it says "the username or password did not work". tried conecting to the laptop by adding the ip address, tried adding a gateway (i put the gateway p i found on my laptop when running the ipconfig command in cmd). what else? I quadruple checked the user and password, email and password. get to the same result every time.

Hello, here are a few more things you can try:

    1. Make sure that either "Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (recommended)" is enabled and working correctly with your phone's RD Client, or try temporarily disabling NLA to see if it allows connection without this security feature.
    2. The user account trying to connect remotely must be part of the Remote Desktop Users group on the target laptop. To check or add this permission, go to Computer Management > Local Users and Groups > Groups > Remote Desktop Users, then right-click and select “Add to Group".

    1. Temporarily disable any third-party firewalls or antivirus software on your laptop which might be blocking incoming RDP connections. Check Windows Firewall settings to make sure there's an inbound rule allowing for Remote Desktop traffic on port 3389. You can create one manually if needed.
    2. On your phone, clear any saved credentials in the RD Client app and attempt a fresh connection, ensuring you type the password manually each time.
    3. Review the Event Viewer logs on your laptop, specifically under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > RemoteDesktopServices-RdpCoreTS and RemoteDesktopServices-RemoteConnectionManager. Look for any error events related to failed authentication attempts.

    Regards.

Hi, I'm also having this same problem, everything mentioned hasn't worked for me, I've tried everything I possibly can and all it says is that either my email doesn't exist (its the same account for both the host and client device) or the password is wrong but the exact same password for my account works without issue when signing into Microsoft services, nothing is working
