    Hello  Achmadi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

Yes, it is possible to clone an old Windows Server 2008 to a VM. However, there are some important considerations regarding licensing:

    1. Licensing Compliance: When you clone a physical server to a virtual machine, you need to ensure that you comply with Microsoft's licensing requirements. Cloning a server does not transfer the license, and you may need to reactivate the software on the new VM.
    2. Activation Issues: You might encounter activation issues since the hardware signature will change during the cloning process. You may need to reactivate Windows Server on the new VM.
    3. OEM Licenses: If the original server was installed using an OEM license, it might not be transferable to a virtual environment. In such cases, you may need to purchase a new license or use a volume license key.

It's always a good idea to check Microsoft's official licensing documentation or contact Microsoft support to ensure compliance and avoid any potential issues.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan
