Hi

I have a pc with AMD 4650G. What I want is that I want to access my desktop remotely from a laptop (which is old but working) with windows 7. I'm going to use my desktop remotely within my home wifi. How can I do that?

    Hello   ValiantBoy,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community forum.

To remotely access your Windows 11 PC from a Windows 7 PC, you can use the Remote Desktop feature. Here are the steps to follow:

    1. On your Windows 11 PC, go to Settings > System > Remote Desktop and turn on the toggle switch for "Enable Remote Desktop."
    2. Note down the PC name or IP address of your Windows 11 PC. You can find this information under the "PC name" section on the same Remote Desktop settings page.
    3. On your Windows 7 PC, click on the Start menu and search for "Remote Desktop Connection."
    4. Open the Remote Desktop Connection app and enter the PC name or IP address of your Windows 11 PC in the "Computer" field.
    5. Click on "Connect" and enter your Windows 11 PC's username and password when prompted.
    6. You should now be able to access your Windows 11 PC remotely from your Windows 7 PC.

Note that both PCs need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for this to work. Also, make sure that Remote Desktop is allowed through the Windows Firewall on your Windows 11 PC.

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any question or concern, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Haijian Shan

Hi Haijian, I had a similar issue connecting from a local device with win 10 remotely to work device with win 11.

On the remote device I've enabled remote desktop and added myself to remote user/admin list and made sure that the device never fell asleep.
I'm able to connect when they are on the same WiFi.

When I'm back with VPN, it wont connect.
Previously this method works when both devices have win 10 and I'm on VPN.
Is rolling back to win 10 the only option?
