Edge History Erased After Remote Desktop Connection

Hello,

I currently work on a laptop running Windows 11 22H2, and my default browser is Edge Version 130.0.2849.46 (Official build) (64-bit). At times, I am scheduled to work at our customer service desk, instead of my desk. The Customer Service Desk already has PCs situated there, so rather than manually typing and pulling up Edge windows of tabs from my History, I will RDC to my normal laptop from the Customer Service PC and work from there. However, I have noticed in the last few times of remotely connecting to my laptop, I am finding that my browser history is completely wiped out. The "Tabs from other devices" section of my History may have the tabs from the Customer Service PC open at the time, but otherwise, everything else is gone. I have resorted to opening the tabs on my laptop from History, so that when I make the RDC, the tabs are running, but everything else from my History is gone.

Why would RDC delete Edge browsing history? It was very inconvenient to have to manually retype all my tabs the first. I have created a "Workspace" of essential tabs on my main laptop as a backup, but it seems unnecessary to have my History erased. I don't see any options in Edge regarding the History and RDC, so is there a way to preserve my History during and after RDC? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft community forum.

Typically, the remote desktop connection itself does not directly cause the deletion of browsing history. Do you have other similar data synchronization anomalies during the remote session?

It is recommended that you check for version updates first. Also, try to create a new Edge user profile and have synchronization enabled on all devices.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards

    Hello Jacen,

I verified that the Edge browser is up to date on my laptop. I have not noticed any other "synchronization anomalies," as I am only predominately wanting to use my set of Tabs in Edge. My Edge browser has "Sync" set to "On," but the desired do not appear in the "Tabs from other devices" on the host computer.

I don't know that I can simply make another Edge profile, as my company manages our software and we must sign in with our work e-mail accounts and we are only permitted one such account.

I wish to report that this happened again--I had to work at our Customer Service station on Friday, 8 November, and I had to remotely access my main laptop to support a customer. When I returned to my desk today (12 November), my Edge browser history was cleared; the only history was in the "Tabs from Other Devices" section, from using the Customer Service computer on Friday (along with a couple of tabs where I made remote connection from my laptop, rather than to).

Fortunately, I have the Workspace I set up after the last time to recover my work essential tabs, but all my other history is gone once again. This is very annoying to have to repeat my steps.

Thank you for your feedback. It appears that the problem is that the Customer Service PC(local device) and the remote device can not roam properly between the user data. May I know that data phenomena are limited to the Edge browser?

If you are using a Customer Service PC local account to initiate a remote session, try testing with your Microsoft account. This helps us troubleshoot problems with user profiles.

    Best regards
