HP Laptop with new motherboard will not build onto domain

Hi, we have an HP laptop which has recently had a new motherboard fitted.

Since then, we've been unable to sign into the users Microsoft account.

We wiped the machine and rebuilt it but it will not build onto the domain. What do we need to do to get it to build onto the domain?

    Hi Mike Dalziel62,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

For HP laptops that are unable to log in to Microsoft account and unable to build to the domain after replacing the new motherboard, you can try the following steps to solve the problem:

    First, check the network connection

First, make sure the laptop is connected to the Internet and the network connection is stable. You can try to open other web pages or applications to test whether the network connection is working properly. If there is a problem with the network connection, you can try to reconnect to the network or change the network environment.

    II. Verify account credentials

Make sure that you are entering the correct Microsoft account name and password, and pay attention to details such as capitalization and spelling. If you are not sure if the account credentials are correct, try logging in on another device to verify. In addition, if you forget your password, you can use the “Forgot Password” feature provided by Microsoft to reset it.

    Check DNS settings

Sometimes, the DNS server address is not set properly, which may lead to the inability to log in to the Microsoft account or unable to build the domain. You can try to change the DNS server address to public DNS, such as 8.8.8.8 or 4.2.2.1, and save the settings and try to log in or build the domain again.

    Adding computers to a domain

Add it through the “Settings” application:

Right-click on the Start menu and select Settings.

Navigate to Accounts > Access Units or Schools and click Connect.

In the pop-up window, click Add this device to the local Active Directory domain and select Next.

Type in the domain name and click Next.

Enter the user name and password for the domain account and click OK.

Select the account type (Administrator or Standard User) and click Next.

Click Restart Now to complete the process of joining the computer to the domain.

    Add via System Properties:

Run the command sysdm.cpl to open System Properties.

Click the Change button and in the Computer Name/Domain Change dialog box, click the Domain option.

Type the name of the domain you want to add the computer to in the Domain box and click OK.

After the computer contacts the domain controller, add the domain credentials and click OK.

If all is well, you will receive a message welcoming you to the domain. Click OK and restart the computer to complete the process.

    Best regards

    Neuvi
