Why am I unable to add folders to Included Locations for Indexing?

Hello, I work remotely for my job. In the Indexing Options, the Included Locations has Outlook and internet Explorer History. The message The dialog states Indexing Complete 153 files indexed. Windows won't let me add any other folders there. If you add a folder, such as Users\username then go to Advanced to rebuild the index, the folder you just added disappears. If you don't try to rebuild the index, the folder will remain there, but doesn't get indexed. Because of this, I am not able to search for files. The IT Admin said that he has tried this several times and it keeps on doing the same thing. I desperately need help with this. Can anyone suggest what might be going on here? I would appreciate any help I can get.

    Hello, Marie OKeefe

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Hello, thank you for your feedback on your issue here, it seems that you are experiencing an anomaly in the indexing function while working remotely.

In order to help you better, can I ask if you can use it on your current local computer, if you can use it, then if it's convenient for you to see if the indexing function is normal on your local computer, and if the problem still exists, this will check if the problem is fixed on the remote computer.

    Best regards

Hi Bobhe, Thank you for your reply. I am not having the issue on my local laptop, I tested it while working remotely. It just happens when I log into the remote server on the server side. I have provided a screenshot. I was able to add my user folder, but it is not including it in the indexing. When I rebuild the index to include the user folder, my user folder disappears, and it is back to the same 153 files getting indexed.Image
