Windows SBS 2011 Essential client restore network error

I have just tried to do a client restore from a recent backup using the SBS 2011 Essentials Client Computer Restore disc on a Windows 10 laptop.

After booting from the disc and providing a network driver on a USB disk, the process was unable to find the server. The client is connected via an Ethernet cable. I tried several cables that I know are working, but it would not find the server including when I provided the IP address. This must be a networking issue, but I am not sure what it is. I downloaded the network driver from the Dell website, so this should be fine.

I last did a client restore some years ago, but I would like to know it still works.

I hope that someone can provide an answer!

TIA

    Hello,

To troubleshoot this issue, here are a few suggestions:

    1. Ensure that the network driver you downloaded from the Dell website is compatible with Windows 10 and the SBS 2011 Essentials Client Computer Restore disc.
    2. Ensure the network configuration settings on both the client computer and the server are correct, you can use the 'ipconfig /all' command to examine the network settings. Confirm proper DNS resolution by employing 'nslookup servername.' Additionally, assess network connectivity through the 'ping' and 'tracert' commands
    3. Temporarily disable antivirus and security software on both the client and server. Sometimes, security software can interfere with network communication.

4.If possible, try restoring a different client computer using the same SBS 2011 Essentials server. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the client or a more widespread network problem.

    Regards,

    Karlie

Many thanks Karlie. I shall do as you suggest. I have done a full restore before, but some time ago.
