    Hi Sweetpea386,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

    Possible causes and solutions

    Graphics Card Driver Problems

DESCRIPTION: Incompatible or corrupted graphics card drivers may cause a black screen.

    Solution:

Try to enter Safe Mode (usually accessed by pressing F8 when booting the computer).

Uninstall the current graphics card driver in safe mode.

Visit the laptop manufacturer's official website or the graphics card manufacturer's official website to download and install the latest graphics card driver.

    System File Corruption

Description: Corruption of critical system files may cause the system to fail to operate normally.

    Solution:

Try to enter Safe Mode and use System Restore or System Repair tool (e.g. sfc /scannow command) to repair the system files.

If a system restore point is not available or the repair tool does not solve the problem, consider reinstalling the operating system.

    Hardware failure

Description: Hardware failures such as memory, hard disk, etc. may cause the system to fail to operate normally.

    Solution:

Check if the memory stick is plugged in properly, you can try to unplug the memory stick, wipe the gold finger with an eraser and then plug it in again.

Use hard disk testing tools (such as HDDScan, CrystalDiskInfo, etc.) to check the health status of the hard disk.

If hardware failure is suspected, it is recommended to contact a professional repair center for testing and repair.

    Power Management Problems

DESCRIPTION: While power problems usually result in failure to boot, in some cases, power management settings or battery issues may also cause a black screen after login.

    Solution:

Check that the power adapter and battery are working properly.

Try changing the power management settings, such as disabling the screen saver, adjusting the power plan, etc.

    Virus or Malware

Description: Virus or malware may corrupt system files or tamper with system settings.

    Solution:

Run antivirus software in safe mode for a full scan and cleanup.

If antivirus software fails to solve the problem, consider using a professional malware removal tool.

    Display Settings Problems

Description: Incorrect display settings (e.g. screen brightness is too low) may result in what appears to be a black screen.

    Solution:

Try adjusting the screen brightness via a shortcut key (e.g. Fn+Brightness Adjustment Key).

If an external monitor is available, try connecting to the external monitor to see if it displays properly.

    Other Suggestions

Backup important data: Before performing any repair or reinstallation operation, please make sure to backup important data in case of loss.

Update BIOS: If the laptop is older and has a lower BIOS version, trying to update the BIOS to the latest version may help resolve the compatibility issue. However, please note that BIOS updates carry risks, so be sure to follow the manufacturer's guidelines for proper operation.

    Best regards

    Neuvi
